The Dean of Melbourne was educated at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A. 1821), ordained 21st Sciitember, 1822, by Dr. Elringtcm, Bishop of Limerick ; received priest's orders, 14th September, 1823, from Dr. Alexander, Bishop of Meath. He was curate of Banagher, King's county, Ireland, from 10th October, 1822, to 23rd January, 1824, curate of Killoe, co. Longford, from January, 1824, to 1828, curate of Killashee, same county, from 1828 to January, 1831. In March, 1831, he was appointed to the living of ('i-ea"h, CO. Cork, which he held till June, 18-13, when he removed to Kileoek, co. Kildare. In September, 1847, he left Ireland and .sailed with the first Bisliop of Melbourne (Dr. Perry) in the " Stag " for Port Phillip, in Anstralia, where he landed 25th January, 1848, and soon afterwards took charge of lleidel-
