In 1884-85 a circular was issued by the Surgeon- General to the Government of India requiring Assis- tant Surgeons to pass their Septennial Examination, without an exception, failing which they would make them selves liable to stoppage of promotion. But such were Ram Lall's good services that the Government of India was pleased to exempt him from further profes- sional examinations on the recommendation of the. Inspector General of N. W. P. and Oudh. In view of the' distinguished and meritorious services, the Government has of late conferred upon Ram LaU the title of u Rai Bahadur" as a personal distinction. "His Excellency the Viceroy and Governor-Ge- neral is pleased to confer upon Assistant-Surgeon Ram LaU Chakravatti, attached to the Bulrampur Hospital, Lucknow, the title of "Rai Bahadur" as a personal distinction.
