Supposed, from charters, to have lived in the reign of David II. 5. Eawsao DR BRENNE. Named prior of Scotland and receiver-general in a bull of the Grand-Master d’Hcredia, dated Rhodeq, sth June, 1386, granting a lease of the lands of Torphiehen, vacant by death of David do Marr, to a certain Richard de Cornel. 6. Jon DE BYNNYNGE. A bull of the Grand-Master Philibert de Naillac, dated Rhodes, 24th July, 1410, grants the bailliage of Scotland for five years to John do Bynnynge, he being bound to pay certain rcsponsions specified. 7. HENRY LIvINGsToN. Named prior of Scotland, and preceptor of Torphichen, in a bull of the Grand-Master de Lastic, regarding the payment of arrears of resposions, dated Rhodes, 5th September, 1449. Ob. A.D. 1462. (WILuAM HULLES.) A bull of the Grand-Master Fluvian, dated (RoiwaT MALLORY.) Rhodes, 8th May, 1433, complains of the nonpayment of responsions, mortuary dues, and other imposts, by the prior of Scotland, and appoints Robert Mallory, grand-prior of England, administrator of the priory of Scotland, to hold that office as his predecessor, V• •am Hulles, grand-prior of England, had held it before him. 8. WILLIAIt MELDRtTM. Is named administrator of the priory of Scotland in a bull of the Grand-Master de Lastic, dated Rhodes, 9th January, 1452-3, by which he is summoned to Rhodes to account for his mal-administration. In another bull of the same, dated 24th November, 1454, he is called preceptor of Torphichen. (PATRICK SKOUOALL.) Administrator of the priory. On the nomination of William Knolles he petitioned the Grand-Master and council for the dignity of prior, asserting that Knolles had been unjustly appointed in his place. The council decided against him, but granted him an indemnity by bull, dated Rhodes, 3rd September, A.D. 1473; Jean Baptiste Orsini, Grand-Master. 9. Wru.ii KNous. Nominated prior of Scotland, rice Livingston [dead], by bull of the Grand-Master Orsini, dated Rhodes, 22nd December, 1466. Resigned the priory, A.D. 1504; and died before the 24th June, A.D. 1510. (PATRICK KNOLLES.) Named coadjutor of his uncle, William Knolles (in a bull cited below), who was incapacitated by age and infirmities from governing the priory. Ob. ante 1500. (ROBERT STUART D’AuBIoNr.) Nephew of the Lord Bernard d’Aubigny; appointed coadjutor of the prior William Knolics, in place of Patrick Knobs, dead, by bull of the Grand-Master d’Aubusson, dated Rhodes, 17th March, 1501-2.
