Have Faith, and Fear not.

Behold the sunset!—gorgeous sight—
O'er land and sea a flood of light,
Like burnished gold.
To other lands he wends his way,
'Tis eve to us, to them young day
His gates unfold.

Say, who can view, without delight,
Yon glorious, grand, and solemn sight?
The sun departs!
So when deep grief a scar hath made,
And sin and error cast a shade
On human hearts.

When lives are darkened by regret,
Our sun of happiness is set,
Yet hope lives still,
And banish'd sorrow, grief, and pain,
The sun of joy may rise again,
If 'tis His will.

Then bid defiance to Despair,
To dark Despondence, canker*d Care,
And all their crew.
Be sure that He who gives us light,
Who rules the sun, with all its might,
Would ne'er condemn to endless night
Myself or you.
