the time of his herculean task, his diet was principally composed of fowls, jellies, strong broths, tea, milk, eggs, &c. a moderate quantity of Madeira wine, about four or five glasses in the twenty-four hours; his appetite was good, and had increased; he slept well, and his spirits remaining undiminished, I do not doubt but that he would have accomplished his arduous task, had he been permitted.

Wilson’s weight at starting was 8st. 91/2lb. On Monday, Sept. 11, he commenced his arduous undertaking; and the following is the progress of each day:—

1st, Monday, began at six o'clock in the morning, and completed the 50 miles at 5 min. past 10.
2nd, Tuesday, began at 5, finished at half-past 10.
