This work was originally published in The Portfolio, vol. ix., June-December 1878, pp. 82-85, 104-108, 125-128, 130-134, 146-150, 162-165, 189-192, and, though dated 1879, was issued in book form in December 1878 at the price of eighteen shillings. It has now considerably increased in value, copies selling at auctions from four to seven guineas, according to condition.

This edition does not contain the etchings by Brunet-Debaines which were contained in the first issue, but the woodcuts are numerously reproduced.
