HOW TO MAKE COATS Mark the position of the buttons by chalk, marking through the buttonholes or pinning through the buttonholes, so the coat can be slipped off without removing the pins.
MAKING COATS In heavy materials the coat will button easier if the end of the buttonhole is rounded as shown in Fig. 39. To make the buttonhole, lay the coat on a flat surface and cut the button¬ hole with the point of a sharp knife, cutting out a circle at the end. The circle ought not to be over one-eighth of an inch across. Pad the buttonhole and work as before. The order in which the pieces are put together is important. No matter what the style, coats go together in about the same way. Here are a few general rules you can apply to making all lined and unlined coats.
