9. a in -adh verbal noun ending = ə. After a liquid + mh, bh, dh, = Ū. Vid § 10,7. bualadh ʙŪəʟə but berbhadh beʀŪ. Unaccented -adh in auslaut therefore give up its j or w. adh- accented = î vid. § 6. In Desmond often=ᴇ madhmach:laochradh T. G. 12. Accented auslaut=ī cladh ᴋʟī, so -aidh in ceadfaidh, chadfuy, Cat. O. I. cétbaid with accent on first syllable.
10. adh, agh as accented monosyllables = ǡ, ádh, ágh rádh, adhbhar ǡᴠʀ′ S. R. usually oᴜʀ. Here there is old lengthening.
11. a==ǡ by contraction Adhamh ǡᴠ, T.G. 9. 19. Aav, Cat. 31, From namha ɴǡ. baile atha cliath, ʙʟǡklī, Here contraction to ā and exceptional loss of th. This, the pronunciation of a place name, came from outside. Intervocalic th is not lost in the Dēsi.
12. a with w of bh under accent to ou. cabair ᴋour, tabhair. Vid. § 5,1. Often the older stage ȧᴠ is kept in songs labairt ʟȧvrt, cabair : chailleamar T. G. Therefore ᴋȧvr.
13. a which with anusvâra mh, or induced from -nn, -ll, etc. = au. lann, mall ʟauɴ ᴍauʟ, (Vid. § 4,1) sometimes preserves non Dēsi forms in songs; do réir m’ amhrais rēr ᴍouʀis, M. song. amhras:cabair Brett apud Dunne. When anusvâra is not induced the root sound remains. Cama chlis ᴋȧᴍə clis.
14. a=o in ᴛoʀᴍ′ .|. tabhair dham unaccented. Here tabhair once = ᴛōr is shortened by the addition of a syllable. Cf. -the plurals rí, rithe ʀihə: imthig, C. M. O. In such ease resolved pausa shortened on the analogy of the treatment of real pausa lengthenings.
