Manuscript of the first translation into English (Made for Sir Joseph Banks) of Tasman's Journal. The entry for 13th December 1642 describes the discovery of New Zealand: "Towards Noon we saw a large high land, about 15 miles S.S.E. from us. We steered strait to the shore, S.E. and shot off a gun."
