Phippe, Christopher, of co. Lancaster, pleb. Brasenose Coll., matric. 19 June, 1610, aged 17; B.A. 26 Nov., 1613, M.A. 18 June, 1616; student of Gray's Inn 1611 (as son and heir of Richard, of Bold, co. Lancaster), changed his religion for that of Rome, became divinity reader at Douay, among the English seculars; will at Oxford proved 26 April, 1622, as of Broadgates Hall. Phipps, Hon. Sir Constantine, created D.C.L. 20 Oct., 1714; licenced (V.G.) 10 Oct., 1684, to marry Catherine Sawyer, of St. Catherine Cree church, London; bar.-at-law, Middle Temple, 1684, and a bencher 1706 (as 3rd son Francis, late of Reading, Berks, gent., deceased), lord chancellor of Ireland 1710, and knighted 12 Dec., 1710; died in Middle Temple 9 Oct., 1723, aged 65.
