Wilts 1646-53 (l.p.), 1659, and 1660, till void 18 May, parliamentary colonel and one of its prime officers, became major-general, governor of Wardour Castle, lieutenant-general of the army in Ireland, and sometime lord deputy, excepted out of the act of oblivion but escaped; died in exile at Vevay in Switzerland 1693, aged 76.
