At all events, the pessimists in world-philosophy, who are of the opinion that nothing essential can be changed in the social process, are in danger of a serious reverse. The optimists, on the other hand, of the Franz Oppenheimer type, may congratulate themselves. In Lester F. Ward they have from America a powerful reinforcement.
