But this and other important queries lie beyond the scope of this paper. The one thing made clear by this kind of study is the conviction that the whole field needs scientific exploration and valuation and that practically pastors and churches at pres- ent are where we should be in planning and building our houses if we had no architects and no landscape gardeners to guide us but relied wholly on our own meager knowledge and the skill of the mere carpenter.
