Among the leading American collections that in the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, stands foremost in western United States. It is a large and well-kept collection, supplemented by an excellent library. Drs. G. Dallas Hanna and Leo Hertlein have in the main been responsible for its successful growth. The Paleontology Collection at Stanford University contains a large series of recent and fossil mollusks. It is particularly strong in material from the Pacific northwest. Its present curator. Dr. Myra Keen, is one of our outstanding malacologists who specializes in marine bivalves. A very large collection of marine mollusks is housed at the San Diego Natural History Society, Balboa Park, San Diego. The Museum of Paleontology, University of California, Berkeley, also has a very large collection.
