Around her Breast her golden Belt she threw;665
Then thro’ the thick-embattled Squadrons flew;
Amidst the Thousands stood the dire Alarms,
And the fierce Maid engag’d the Men in Arms.

Thus, while the Trojan Hero stood amaz’d,
And, fixt in Wonder, on the Picture gaz’d,670
With all her Guards, fair Dido, from below,
Ascends the Dome, majestically slow.
As on Eurotas’ Banks, or Cynthus’ Heads,
A thousand beauteous Nymphs Diana leads:
While round their quiver’d Queen the Quires advance,675
She tow’rs majestic, as she leads the Dance;
She moves in Pomp superior to the Rest,
And secret Transports touch Latona’s Breast.
So past the graceful Queen amidst her Train,
To speed their Labours, and her future Reign.680
Then with her Guards surrounded, in the Gate,
Beneath the midmost Arch, sublime she sate.
