vicinity to the countries infected with heresy, and particularly with the pabulum of all opinion — books. The first of these appeared at Venice: it was short; and I have given from a work of Vergerio the list copied by him, and which should seem to embrace nearly the whole. The second came from Florence in 1552, and of that no account is extant, to my knowledge at least. The third is issued from Milan, the title of which was — Catalogo del Arcimboldo Arcivesco di Milano. 1554. I owe this information to Schoettgen, who yet had not seen it, and supposes, on insufficient grounds, that it was reprinted by Vergerio.[1] The next, which is our present subject, was a production of Venice, in the same year.

Pietro Paolo Vergerio, whose life may be
