Dravidian pbilology I have alluded to the pioneer work done by the early missionaries and the disablities under which they worked. I have taken stock cf the present state of Dravidian philological studies. I have put before you the method which Caldwell followed in his grammar, and pointed out how the problem can be approached from another point of view which may prove to be more fruitful of results I have referred to the problems that may usefully be tackled and noticed the modern methods of studying languages In the next lecture, I shall make an attempt to give you a picture of Dravidian culture by putting before you the various elements that have contributed to make it what it is, and approach the problem from the linguistic standpoints.
