not preserved in literature but reconstructed. ? before a word or form indicates doubt as to the form proposed or to the form being the source of the word or connected with the word under discussion. / means root. -f- joins up the component parts which are the basis of a Modern Indo-Aryan or other word. - the hyphen : used to analyse words into their roots and affixes. When a word is given with a hyphen at the end, it indicates merely the base form to which the olher additions or suffixes or inflexions were made. Prefixes have a hyphen after them, and suffixes and inflexions before them. / divides a word into syllables ; when it stands between two vowels as in o i, it means li when o in one syllable is followed by i in a succeeding syllable.
