Chapter II.


TERRITORIAL DIVISIONS.

For the purposes of public administration, the territory of Bolivia is divided into four grand divisions, viz: First, Political and Military; second, Judicial; third, Ecclesiastical; fourth, University.

(1) POLITICAL AND MILITARY DIVISION.

The political and military division of the Republic comprises nine departments, 52 provinces, 374 cantons, and 205 vice-cantons, as follows:

DEPARTMENT OF CHUQUISACA.

Situated in southeastern Bolivia, capital Sucre, which is also the capital of the Republic, it embraces 4 provinces, 46 cantons, and 20 vice-cantons. Its provinces and their capitals are: Chuquisaca and Yamparaez, capital Yotata; Cinti, capital Camargo; Tomina, capital Padilla, and Acero, capital Sauces.

DEPARTMENT OF LA PAZ.

Situated in northwestern Bolivia, capital La Paz, it is composed of 9 provinces, 98 cantons, and 26 vice-cantons. Its provinces and their capitals are: La Paz, capital La Paz; Yungas, capital Chulumani; Larecaja, capital Sorata; Muñecas, capital Mocomoco; Caupolican, capital Apolo; Omasuyos, capital Achacachi; Pacajes, capital Corocoro; Sicasica, capital Sicasica; Inquisivi, capital Inquisivi.
