THE

BONNY BRIDGE OF FINDHORN.

All you that have seen me or heard of my name,
Cannot but with pleaſure approve of the ſame,
Of raiſing my fabric moſt gallant and brave.
For the good of the country, and lives for to ſave.

It was long ſince propoſed that I ſhould be here,
But my bulk being large, and my price being dear,
They could not contrive how to rear up my frame,
Till the country all round me ſubſcrib’d for the ſame.

The great need was for me, it’s needleſs to tell,
Becauſe I am certain you know very well:
The river ſhe oft-times came down with ſuch force,
That no one could croſs her with boat or with horſe.

The brave town of Forres was eager for me,
And greatly rejoiced when they did me ſee!
This blood-thirſty river ſo rapid came down,
That ſhe oft-times did hinder the trade of their town.

The gentlemen there contrived this plan,
And handſomely with their ſubſcription began:
They got great aſſiſtance within their own bounds,
And alſo got help from the neighbouring towns.

They well deſerve praiſe from the country and me,
For great was the need erected ſhould be ;
And what they did for me ſhall not be forgot,
As long as I’m able to ſtand on the ſpot.
