SYNOPSIS

A South Central Alrllnes, Inc., Beech D188, crashed during takeoff from run— way 6 at the Ga1nesv111e Mun1c1pal Airport, GaInesv111e, Florlda, at 0800 e.s.t., February 3, 1964.

The a1rcraft was observed durlng takeoff wlth flaps down as It made a steep c11mb to approx1mately 200 feet from whlch 1t stalled and struck the departure end of runway 6. All ten persons aboard, Includlng n1ne passengers and one crew member, recelved fatal 1n3ur1es. The alrcraft was destroyed by Impact and subsequent f1re.

The probable cause of this achdent was the pllot's fallure to properly load the aircraft, resultlng 1n Insufflclent elevator effectiveness to reverse an un— wanted pltchIng motion.

Investlgatlon

At the t1me of the acoldent, South Central Alrllnes operated scheduled serv1ce over routes wlthln the State of FlorIda. Its prInCIpal buSIness, operatlons, and malntenance base was at Ocala, Florlda.

South Central Alrllnes Fllght 510/3 was a scheduled a1r tax1 fllght from Ocala, to Tallahassee, w1th stops at Ga1nesv11le and JackSOnv111e, Florlda. Prlor to de— parting Ocala, N£999 was fueled to a capaCIty of 202 gallons and had 16 gallons of 011 aboard. It departed the Jlm Taylor Alrport, Ocala, at approx1mately 0720, February 3, 1964, and arrlved at the Galnesv111e MunICIpal Alrport at 0733.
