The last section is an Index of Claimants, Producing Companies, Sponsors and Authors for all motion pictures and filmstrips listed in the main section of the catalog. Authors of the published literary works on which the motion pictures were based are included if known. In some instances, the releasing agents, if different from the producers, and the American distributors of films of foreign origin are included. The index includes also the renewal claimants of pictures listed in the fourth section, for these pictures the symbol (R) follows the title in the index.

Bibliographic Data.—In the main section, each main entry includes, as applicable, 1) title; 2) production statement; 3) date of release; 4) physical description of the film, i. e., running time or number of reels, width, etc.; 5) series to which the individual picture belongs; 6) published literary work on which the motion picture was based; 7) a summary of the content of the film; 8) the leading credits and actors. Descriptive information regarding motion pictures is taken from press books, synopses, cutting conti' nuities, reviews, etc., and verified in so far as possible by comparison with the film itself. In the fourth section, Renewals, each main entry includes 1) title; 2) a description which gives the length of the film in reels; and 3) the name of the legal author, which is usually the original producing company.

For serial entries in both the main and renewal sections, information relating to the entire serial precedes that relating to individual numbers or episodes of the serial.

Copyright Data.—The portion of the entry giving the facts of copyright registration begins with the copyright symbol ©. The symbol is followed, for published motion pictures and published filmstrips, by 1) the name of the copyright claimant; 2) the date of publication as given in the copyright application; and 3) the copyright registration number. For unpublished motion pictures, the copyright symbol is followed by 1) the name of the copyright claimant; 2) the date of receipt in the Copyright Office of the title, description and representative prints taken from the motion picture; and 3) the copyright registration number. For unpublished filmstrips, the copyright symbol is followed by 1) the name of the copyright claimant; 2) the date of receipt of copy in the Copyright Office; and 3) the copyright registration number. For renewals, the copyright symbol is followed by 1) the original copyright date; 2) the original copyright registration number; 3) the renewal registration number; 4) the date of receipt in the Copyright Office of the renewal application; 5) the name of the renewal claimant; and 6) a symbol which indicates the basis of the renewal claim.

The Catalog of Copyright Entries records the claimant in whose name a work is originally registered, and contains no record of subsequent changes of ownership. For informtaion relating to transfer of rights, search in the assignment records of the Copyright Office will be undertaken upon request to the Register of Copyrights and upon payment of the statutory search fee.

Deposit of Copies.—In the case of every copyright entry listed in this part of the Catalog, the deposit of copies (or copy) as required by sections 12, 13 or 215 of Title 1? of the United States Code has been made

Authority.—The Catalog of Copyright Entries is published by authority of sections 210 and 211 of Title 17, of the United States Code. Section 210 provides that the Catalog "shall be admitted in any court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards any copyright registration."

Organization of the Catalog.—This issue of the Catalog is part of Volume 4 of the Third Series. The parts are numbered according to the alphabetical sequence of classes as listed in section 5 of Title 17 of the United States Code. Letters are added to the part numbers to indicate subdivisions.
