Act
To amend the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961, so as to grant additional exemption from the provisions of section 55 (d) of the said Act; to extend in a certain respect the provisions of section 1 of the Offices of Profit under the Republic Amendment Act, 1978; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

Be it enacted by the State President, the Senate and the House of Assembly of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:―
1. Section 55 of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961, is hereby amended by the addition to paragraph (d) of the following subparagraph:
“(vii) | a member of a commission of inquiry or a committee of inquiry appointed by the State President or the Administrator of a province, or a member of a Select Committee of the Senate or the House of Assembly or the Senate and the House of Assembly or a provincial council.”. |
2. Any person to whom the provisions of section 1 of the Offices of Profit under the Republic Amendment Act, 1978, apply and who on 31 May 1979 is a member of the Senate or the House of Assembly or a provincial council, shall not by reason of the provisions of section 55 (d) of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961 (Act No. 32 of 1961), be disqualified from sitting as a member of the Senate or the House of Assembly or the provincial council in question, but not after 30 June 1979, if the provisions of the said section 55 (d) then apply to him.
3. This Act shall be called the Constitution Amendment Act, 1979, and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1 June 1979.
