Dutch school ; landscape paint- er, pupil of Jan van Goyen, but formed himself chiefly by study- ing nature. His views of the Rhine, Meuse, and Moselle, are well drawn, carefully executed, and enlivened with fig- ures and animals. The pictures of his best period are distinguished by their clear per- spectives and a soft bluish colouring. Re- moved to Utrecht probably about 1633.
