BRUSASORCI, the elder, born in Verona,
in 1494, died in 1567. Venetian school.
Real name Domenico Riccio; pupil of Carotto,
according to Ridolfi, or of Niccolò
Giolfino, according to Lanzi. Studied later
in Venice the works of Titian and of Giorgione,
and learned to imitate their styles,
though not without some originality. His
mural and panel works are to be seen chiefly
in Verona. His excellence as a fresco painter
is shown in the Entry of Clement VII. and
Charles V. into Bologna, which he painted
in a hall of the Casa Ridolfi, Verona.—Ch.
