ATHLUMNEY, Baron, His lordship's predecessor was his father, William Meredyth Athlumney, P.C., 1st Baron, and a Baronet, son of Sir Marcus Somerville, Bart. He was b. 1802. Educated at Harrow. Was Paid Attache at Berlin 182932. Sat as M.P. for Drogheda 1837 52, and for Canterbury 1854 65, unsuccessfuly contested Drogheda 1835 and Canterbury 1852. Was Under Secretary for the Home Department 18467, and Chief Secretary for Ireland 184752, and a Dep. Lieut, and a Magistrate for Meath. Created an Irish peer 1863, and a peer of the United Kingdom 1866. Married 1st, 1832, Lady Harriet Maria Conyngham who d. 1843 daughter of the 1st Marquess of Conyngham; and 2ndly, Io60, Maria Georgina Elizabeth, daughter of Herbert George Jones, Serjeant-at-law; he u. Dec. 18/3, leaving issue one son and five daughters. ATHLUMNEY, Baroness, MARIA GEORGINA ELIZABETH, daughter of the late Herbert George Jones, Serjeant-at-law ; m. 1860, as his 2nd wife, the 1st Baron Athlumney, who d. Dec. 1873. Scots Fusilier Guards in 1859, became Lieut, and Capt. 1864, retired 1866; is Hereditary Sheriff of Perthshire, and a Dep.
