Born Jan. 13th, 1849; educated at Eton, and at Oriel College, Oxford (M.A. 1874) ; late Lieut, in the Ayrshire and Wigtonshire Militia: is a Magistrate and a Dep. Lieut, of Clackmannanshire, _ _ ^ Perthshire, and Stirlingshire, and Capt. in Tvery land is the home of a brave * h Stirling, Dumbarton, Clackmannan, man. and Kinross Militia.   • This title, created by James I. in 1607, was forfeited by attainder in 1716, shortly after

the first rebellion in Scotland, and restored to the present Baron Balfour in I860, as lineal descendant of Mary, daughter of Robert, fourth Lord, by her marriage with his ancestor, Major Alexander Bruce of Kennet ; a special Act of Parliament having been passed to reverse the attainder.
