John Ramsay, by Mary, daughter of Philip Delisle, Esq., of Calcutta. Born April 26th, 1806; succeeded his cousin in 1874. Entered the Royal Navy Dec. 1820; became Lieut. April 1827, Commander Jan. 1837, Capt. March 1843, Rear- Admiral 1867, C.B. 1856, Vice-Admiral 1873, and Admiral, 1875. Served in the Mediterranean, South America, North America, the West Indies, Ireland, Coast of Spain, and the Baltic; was Superin- tendent of Pembroke Dockyard 1857 62, and Commander in Chief on the South American Station 1866 9. Married (1845) Sarah Frances, daughter of William Robertson, Esq., of Logan-boose, and has issue, living, Sons, John William, Lord Ramsay, b. 1847; is a Commander R.N., and an Equerry to H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. April 22, 1801, and succeeded his father as Baron Panmure 1852, and his cousin as Earl of Dalhousie I860. Entered the 79th Highlanders 1819; served in Canada, and retired as Capt. 1831. Sat as M.P. for Perthshire 18357, for the Elgin Burghs 183841, and for Perth 1841 52. Vas Under Secretary tor the Home Department 1835 41, Vice -President of the Board of Trade 1841, Secretary at War 184652, President of the Board of Control 1852, Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland 1853 74, Lord Rector of Glasgow University 1842, and a Governor of the Charterhouse; assumed in 186l the additional surname of Ramsay : m. 1831, the Hon. Montagu Abercromby, who d. 1853, eldest daughter of the 2nd Baron Abercromby. He d. July 6, 1874, without issue. Dalkeith, Earl of, M.P., son of the Duke of Buccleuch, (see Buc- cleuch.)
