April 12, 1792 ; was raised to the peerage as Baron Durham, 1828, and advanced to the Earldom, 1833; was Lord Privy Seal, 18303; Ambassador at St. Petersburg, 1835 7, and Lord High Commissioner of British America, 1838; for his services in these capacities, received the Grand Cross of the Bath, and various foreign Orders: m. 1st, Jan. 1, 1812, Miss Harriett Cholmondeley, (she d. 1815), and by her had issue three daughters; 2ndly, Dec. 9, 1816, Lady Louisa Elizabeth Grey, daughter of the 2nd Earl Grey : and d.
