July 11, 1799; succeeded his father as 2nd Baronet, July 22, 1817, and in 1828 was raised to the peerage ; he was a distinguished diplomatist, and in 1823 32 was Ambassador Extraordinary to Russia; afterwards Govern- <r-General of India, and Viceroy in Ireland; m. Oct. 3, 1808, Maria Rebecca, granddaughter of the 1st Earl ot Radnor, (she d. 1844); and d. May 31, I860, having had issue four sons and two daughters, of whom a son and a daughter survived him. HILL, VISCOUNT. (CLEGG-HILL.) ROWLAND CLEGG CLEGG-HILL, 3rd Vis- count, and a Baronet, Born Dec. 5th, 1833; succeeded his father in 1875; is Major in the North Salopian Yeomanry Cavalry, and a Dep. Lieut, and a Magis- trate for Shropshire; sat as M.P. for North Shropshire 1857 65 ; assumed in 1875 the additional surname of Clegg : married 1st (1855) Mary, who died 1874, daughter of William Madax, Esq., and has issue, living, Forward. Son, Rowland Richard, b. 1863. His lordship married 2ndly (1875) the Hon. Isabella Elizabeth Wynn, daughter of the 3rd Baron Newborough. Brother living, Geoffrey Richard Clegg, A. 1837. Patron of two livings, Broughton, V. Stanton-upon-Hine-Heath, V. Shropshire. Creations, Baron Hill of Almarez, and of Hawkstone and Hardwicke, 1816, Viscount Hill of Hawkstone and of Hardwicke, 1842, all in the peerage of the United Kingdom. HILL, Viscount, His lordship's predecessor, was his father, Rowland, 2nd Viscount Hill, and a Baronet, Lord Lieut, and Custos Rotulorum of Shropshire, son of John Hill, Esq., eldest brother of the 1st Viscount, by Elizabeth Rhodes daughter of P. Cornish, Esq. He was b. May 10, 1800, and succeeded his grandfather as 4th Bart. 1824, and his uncle as 2nd Viscount (under special remainders) in 1842 ; was educated at Har- row, and at Oriel College, Oxford. Was sometime Lieut.-Col. Commandant of the Shropshire Yeomanry Cavalry; sat as M.P. for Shropshire 1821 3'2, and for North Shrop- shire 18324-2 : m. 1831, Ann, only surviving child of Joseph Clegg, Esq., of Peplow Hall, Shropshire; and d. 1875, leaving issue two sons.
