LYTTON, Baron,---His lordship's predecessor was his father, Edward George Earle Lytton, G.C.M.G., P.C., D.C.L., LL.D., 1st Baron, and a Baronet, 3rd son of General William Earle Bulwer, of Heydon Hall, Norfolk, by Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Richard Warburton Lytton, Esq., of Knebworth. He was b. 1806, and educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge (Chancellor's Medallist for the English Poem on Sculpture, B.A. 1826, M.A. 1825, LL.D. 1863); assumed in 1844 the additional surname of Lytton, in pursuance of his mother's will. Was Secretary for the Colonies 1S58 9 ; sat as M.P. for. St. Ives 1831, for Lincoln 1832 41, and for Hertfordshire 1852 66, was a Dep. Lieut, of the latter county, and author of many well known works on poetry, the drama, and prose fiction, as well as essays on general literature and politics; created Hon.
