PEMBROKE, Earl of, His lordship's predecessor in the Barony of Herbert of Lea, was his father, Sidney Herbert, who was 2nd son of George Augustus, J 1th Earl of Pembroke. He was b. Sept. 6, IS 10, and was a distinguished statesman and politician, and sometime Secretary for War. He m. Aug. 12, 1846, Elizabeth, only daugh- ter of Lieut.-Gen. Charles Ashe A'Court (now Baroness of Lea, whom see) ; and d. Aug. 2, 186i, leaving issue four sons and three daughters. His lordship's predecessor in the Earl- dom of Pembroke was his uncle, Robert Henry, 12th Earl of Pembroke, and 9th Earl of Montgomery. He was b. Sept. 19, 1791, and succeeded his father Oct. 26, 1827 : TO. Aug. 17, 1814, the Princess Octavia SpinelJi, daughter of the Duke oJ Loraine, and widow of the Sicilian Prince Butt era de Rubari (she d, 1857), and d. April 25, 1862, without issue. Born June 20th, 1800 ; entered the Gre- nadier Guards, 1815, became Col. 1846, and retired, 1847 ; was M.P. for Carnar- vonshire, 184166; has been Hon. Col. of the Carnarvon Militia since 1858, and is a Magistrate for Bucks, and Northamptonshire ; appointed Chairman of the Bangor School Board, 1871 : married, 1st (1833) Juliana Isabella Mary, eldest daughter and co-heiress of George Hay Dawkins-- Pennant, Esq. of Penrhyn- castle, (this lady died 1842) , and has issue, living, Sons, George Sholto, M.P., b. IS36 ; late Major Commandant Royal Carnarvonshire Rifles, is a Dep. Lieut, and a Magistrate for Carnarvonshire ; sat as M.P for Carnarvonshire (C.) 18668, and was re-elected Feb. 1874: m. 1st. I860, Pamela Blanche Rushout, who d 1869, 2nd daughter of Sir Charles Rushout Rushout, 2nd Bart.; and has, with other issue, Edward Sholto, b. 1864; 2ndly, 1875, Gertrude Jessy, youngest daughter of the late Canon Glynne, and niece of the Right Hon. William Ewart Gladstone, M.P. Resi- dence, Mortimer House, Halkin-street, S.W. Clubs, Carlton, Travellers', Arthur's, Boodle' s , W hite' s . Archibald Henry, b. 1837, m. 1865. Daughters, Caroline Elizabeth Emma, b. 1834, m. 1857, (Hogg). Emma, b. 1835. Eleanor Frances, b. 1838. His lordship married 2ndly (1846), Lady Maria Louisa Fitzroy, 2nd daughter of the 5th Duke of Grafton, and has issue, living, With an even mind.
