Aug. 18, 1825, Elizabeth Jane, daughter of the late Rear Admiral Lord George Stuart, C.B. son of the 1st Marquess of Bute; and d. Sept. 10, 1863, having had issue, three sons and three daughters. Born April 28th, 1830; succeeded his father in 1875 ; was educated at Eton; entered the 17th Lancers as Cornet 1849, became Lieut. 1850, and Capt. 1853, retired 1855 ; served through the Crimean war, and was present at the battles of the Alma, Balaclava, and In- kermann, and at the siege of Sebastopol ; has the Crimean medal and clasps, the order of the Medijie, and the Turkish War medal; was sometime Major of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussar Yeomanry Cavalry ; is a Magistrate for the counties of Brecon, Monmouth, and Glamorgan, and a Dep. Lieut, for Brecon and Monmouth, of which latter county he has been High Sheriff; sat as M.P. for Breconshire (C.) 185875. Brothers living, Frederic Courtenay, M.P., heir presumptive, b. 1834; was sometime Capt. in the Rifle Brigade, is a Dep. Lieut, for Monmouthshire ; elected M.P. for Mon- mouthshire (C.) Feb. 1874 : m. 1858, Charlotte Anne, daughter of the late Charles A. Williamson, Esq., of Lawers, Perthshire, N.B., and has, with other issue, Courtenay Charles Evans, b. 1867.
