Canon of Worcester, 1845 67. Consecrated 97th Bishop of Rochester, 1867; is Patron of 60 Livings, and the three Arch- deaconries of Rochester, St. Alban's (Essex), and Colchester; appointed one of the Select Preachers at Oxford for 1868: married (1842) the Hon. Julia Susannah, daughter of the 10th Baron Ward, and sister of the 1st Eavl of Dudley, and has issue, living, Sons, Thomas Legh. Piers Leopold. Gilbert Henry. Daughters, Amelia Maria, m. 1863, Hon. A. A. Anson, M.P. Katharine Susanna, m. 1872, the Hon. Ronald Campbell. Lucy Eleanor. Rochester is one of the most ancient Bishoprics. It was founded by Augustine. St. Justin was Bishop in 604. ASAPH, LORD BISHOP OF. The Right Rev. JOSHUA HUGHES, D.D. son of C. Hughes, Esq. of Newport, Pembrokeshire. Born 1807 ; was educated at Cardigan and Ystradmeurig Schools and at St. David's College, Lampeter. Was sometime Minister of St. David's Church, Carmarthen; appointed Vicar of Abergwili 18-37, and of Llandovery 1846; was subsequently a Rural Dean, a Surrogate, and a Proctor in Convocation for diocese of St. David's. Consecrated 70th Bishop of St. Asaph, 1870 ; Patron of 100 Livings, and 7 alternate with the Crown, the Deanery, the Archdeaconries, Canonries and Prebends : married Margaret, daughter of Sir Thomas McKenny, Bart, of Ullard and Mount Rothe, (co.) Kifkenny. This See was founded about 5.60, by Kentigern, Bishop of Glasgow, who left St. Asaph his successor, from whom the Diocese takes its name. ARMS OF THE SEE.
