Residence, Stevenson, Haddington, N.B. King Charles I. issued a warrant creating James Baird, of Byth, Baron Devern, but he died before the patent passed the great seal. Mr. Baird's 2nd son, Robert (of Saughton Hall), was created a baronet, and his eldest son. Sir John (Lord Newbyth), was a Lord of Justiciary. Sir John's eldest son received a baronetcy, which became extinct 1745. The Bairds, baronets of Newbyth, are descended from William. 2nd son of Sir Robert, ist baronet of Saughton.
