Mary Dorothy Cecilia. The family of Boothby is descended from ancient Danish chiefs, settled and holding lands in Lincolnshire before the Norman invasion. A baronetcy was conferred, by letters patent 1644, upon Henry Boothby, Esq., of Claytor Close, but, though it received the sign-manual of Charles I., it did not pass the seals by reason of the confusion of the civil wars. At the Restoration a new patent was renewed by Charles II., with the date of 1660, to William Boothby. Esq., "of Broadlow Ash." Ash- oourne Hall, Derbyshire, the seat of the family for 200 years, was sold in 1846, in accordance with the will of the gth baronet. BOREEL, Creation 1644.
