This family is descended from Christopher Robinson, of Cleasby, Yorkshire, who emigrated t& Virginia about 1670, and was elder brother of the Rt. Rev. John Robinson, Ambassador to Sweden 1683-1708, Bishop of Bristol and London 1710-23, and First Plenipotentiary at the Congress of Utrecht 1713. The ist baronet, Sir John Beverley, C.B., D.G.L. of Oxford, having served as a Volunteer in the war of 1812 with America, was admitted to the Bar in Canada and at Lincoln's Inn, and was subsequently (1829-62) Chief Justice of Upper Canada, and for many years member for the town of York and Speaker of the Legislative Council in the Old Province of Upper Canada.
