The ist baronet, Sir Henry Steuart, LL.D., was descended from Alexander, the 6th Lord High Steward of Scotland, and was well known for his literary attainments and his improvements in the art of transplanting large trees. The 2nd baronet, whose patronymic was Macdonald, married Elizabeth Margaret, daughter of the ist baronet, and succeeded his father-in-law under a special remainder, and in 1836 assumed the surname of Seton-Steuart. The ancient families of the Setons of Touch (Hereditary Armour-Bearers and Squires of the Royal Body in Scotland), the Steuarts of Allanton, as well as the Macdonalds of Boisdale, are now represented by the present baronet.
