4 Messrs. Metiiuen's Announcements Oi-forD Commentaries. General Editor, Walter Lock, D.D., Warden of Keble College, Dean Ireland's Professor of Exegesis in the University of Oxford. Messrs. Metiiuen propose to issue a series of Commentaries upon such Books of the Bible as slill seem to need further explanation. The object of each Commentary is primarily exegetical, to interpret the author's meaning to the present generation. The editors will not deal, except very subordinately, with questions of textual criticism or philology ; but taking the English text in the Revised Version as their basis, they will try to combine a hearty acceptance of critical principles vith 'loyalty to the Catholic Faith. It is hoped that in this way the series may be of use both to theological students and to the clergy, and also to the growing number of educated laymen and laywomen who wish to read the Bible intelligently and reverently.
