The correspondence dates from Victor Hugo's boyhood to his death, and none of the letters have been published before. The first volurne contains, among others, (i) Letters to his father ; (2) to his young wife ; {2) to his confessor, Lamennais ; avery important set of about fifty letters to Sainte-Beauve ; (5) letters about his early books and plays.
