are in the neighborhood of Ward,xxx Cold Hill and Jamestown, in Boulder C ounty, Colorado, the latter place having been Mr. Gale's headquarters when in the mountains.

These note books were "pircaased" purchased by the University of Colorado, together with such portions of his collection of nests and eggs as had not been sent to Smithsonian Institution, the purchase price being $500.00, the purchase being made from estate, the money for the purchase price being part of the amount presented to the University for biological collections by Senator Simon Guggenheim. The notebooks were not numbered by Mr. Gale, but have been numbered by me for convenience.
