TRIMBAKJI DANGLIA ( ? - ? )
Mahratta Brahman : minister and favourite of the Peshwa, Baji Rao (q.v.), on whose behalf intrigues were carried on, 1815–7, at Poona with Sindia and Holkar, with a view to restore the Peshwa to the headship of the Mahratta empire, and to combine the native powers against the British Government : when Gangadhur Sastri was sent by the Gaekwar of Baroda, under the guarantee of the British Government, to Poona to settle the pecuniary differences between the Peshwa and the Gaekwar, Trimbakji contrived his murder at Pundarpur on the night of Sep. 19, 1815 : the British Government demanded his surrender; he was imprisoned at Tanna, but, by means of a Mahratta horsekeeper, he escaped, and fled to the Bhils : he assembled a number of rebels : in 1818 he was captured, and imprisoned at Chunar till his death.

B.C.S. : born Dec. 23, 1789 : brother of John Trotter (q.v.): appointed a writer in July, 1807, and arrived in Bengal, Nov. 1807 : related to the Governor-General, Lord Minto : held Secretariat appointments in the Public Department and Board of Revenue : Superintendent of Government Lotteries, 1812 : was in 1816 in charge of measures for the relief of inhabitants of the Isle of France : Senior Merchant, 1818 : Collector of Bihar, 1824 : Secretary to the Board of Revenue, 1826 : employed at Bihar, and was Commercial Resident and Opium Agent, Patna, 1835–40 : served with Mr. Stockwell, in 1837, on a Commission to reform the Department of the Postmaster-General in Bengal : an accomplished scholar and an able man of business : Commissioner of Supply, J. P. for Midlothian, and Director of the Bank of Scotland : died at the Bush, May 7, 1868.

Born Aug. 30, 1841 : son of Alexander Trotter : educated at Cheltenham and Addiscombe : entered the Bengal Engineers, 1860, and retired as Lt-Colonel, 1890 : served in the Trigonometrical Survey of India, 1863–75 ; withSir Douglas Forsyth's mission to Yarkand and Kashgar, 1873–4 : on special service in China, 1876 : Mihtary Attache at Constantinople during Turko- Russian war, 1877–8 : Consul for Kurdistan, 1878–82 : Military Attache, Constantinople, 1882–8 : Consul General in Syria, 1890–4 : C. B., 1880.

B.C.S. : son of Robert Trotter of Bush, Midlothian : born July 10, 1788: appointed a writer, April, 1808 : arrived in Bengal, Oct. 1808 : became a Senior Merchant, 1820 : was Naval Storekeeper and Mint-master at Calcutta, 1821–2 : Secretary at the Board of Customs and Marine Board, 1826 : Opium Agent at Benares, 1833 : was also Senior Member of the above Boards when he retired in 1842 : he and his brother are both referred to in Miss Eden's Up the Country : was Deputy Lieutenant and J. P. of Midlothian : took an active part in County business up to his death at the Bush, Nov. 15, 1852 : married a daughter of Sir F. W. Macnaghten (q.v.).
