The 1st Peer was Lord Chancellor of Ireland 1619, and was created Lord Loftus, a dignity which expired in liis grandson ; the line was, however, carried on through Nicholas Loftus, M.P. for Wexford, and his descendants, on whom other peerages were conferred, which likewise became extinct ; they were revived in the person of the present marq.'s great-grandfather, who, as nephew to the previous peer, inherited the estates ; he was grandson of Chas.
