On the death of the Earl of Crawford and Lindsay in 1808, the earldom of Lindsay and minor honours passed to a collateral branch, but it was not imtil 1878 that the 10th Earl established his claim before the House of Lords. The 9th Earl de jure rendered conspicuous military service to the Shah of Persia, ancl was creat. a Bt. in compliance with the Shah's reciuest, but the Baronetcy became extinct upon the death of his son, the 10th Earl.
