Black Watch. This family, which is of Hungarian origin, is descended from Sir Malcolm Drum- mond, 12th heritable thane of Lennox, whose sister was Queen Aunabella of Scotland. The 4th Earl was Lord Chancellor of Scotland, and was creat. Duke of Perth by James II, and that title was confirmed in France by Louis XIV. His s. was attainted in 1715, and his nephew, the 3rd Duke, who was wounded at Culloden, was attainted in 1746. The Dukedom becanre extinct on the death of the 6th Duke. The Earldom was restored to the predecessor of the present holder by the Drvmimond Restitution Act 1853. The Barony of Maderty was conferred on the uncle of the 1st Earl, and the Viseovuity on the 4th Baron Maderty. The 4th Vise, fell at Culloden, and was attainted in 1746. The honours were re- stored to the 8th Vise, by Act of Parliament iu 1824. Seat— William Henry Drummond, 9th Vise.
