The Peerage of the celebrated Earl of Stratibrd, of the reign of Charles I, having bsen forfeited by attainder, vi'as revived in his son, but he dying without issue, the title became extinct ; his heir and nearest kinsman, however, was advanced to the Earldom of Stratford, bat the title again expired in its 3rd possessor ; the great-great-grandmother of the present Peer was eldest sister of the 2nd Earl after the revival. The 1st Earl of the present line was eminently distinguished in the Peninsular war ; twice re- ceived the thanks of Parliament, and was created a Field-Marshal in 1855.
