This barony having at the death of the late Peer- ess's father fallen into abeyance between his two daughters, the abeyance was in 1829 terminated in favour of hiseldest dau., the late Baroness (who was dau. of Cecil Bisshopp, Lord De la Zouche, by the o. dau. of William Southwell) ; while the Baron- etcy, of which he was likewise possessed, passed to his kinsman, Sir George Bisshopp. He was paternally descended from Walter Bisshopp. who came from Gascony to England with Henry II; he derived his peerage, through three gradations in the female line, from William La Zouche, who was summoned to Parliament as a Baron in the reign of Edward II.
