The adventures of a modern Robinson Crusoe, in the person of a poor sailor of Paington, in Devonshire, named Charles Goodridge, are related in a narrative written by himself in 1844. Goodridge, with his fellow shipmates, was wrecked when on a sealing voyage in 1821, and cast ashore upon one of the Crozet islands in the South Seas, uninhabited by any human being, and without a tree or a shrub growing upon its barren soil.
