The conge d'elire, vice bishop Lindsel, is dated 2nd April 1634. 634 Francis Dee, S.T.P., 'lean of Chichester, was elected Car. 1. 9th April 1634, confirmed 10th May, consecrated at Lambeth 18th May- , enthroned by proxy 28th May, and had the temporalities restored to him 7th June following, lie died od the 8th, and was buried 12th Oct. 1638, in his cathedral. His will is in the Prero- gative Office of Canterbury 31 . The conge d'elire is dated 3rd Nov. 1638". 639 John Towers, S.T. P., dean of Peterborough, was elected Car. I. 21st Nov. 1 638, obtained the royal assent ;th Dec.- 1 , he was confirmed 7th, and consecrated 13th Jan.-' 1638-9, had the temporalities restored to him 23rd Jan.'-', and was enthroned 8th March following. He died 1 oth Jan. 1 6489, and was buried in his cathedral.

The .>" was vacant for ttoehu years. The conge d'elire is dated 6th Nov. 1660. 660 Benjamin Laxy, S.T.P., dean of Rochester, was elected Jar. II. 20th Nov. 1660, consecrated in the chapol of Henry VII. in Westminster abbey 2nd Dec.-', enthroned 21st of the same month, and in April 1663 was trans- lated to Lincoln. The conge d'elire is dated 9th April 1663. 663 Joseph Hens haw, S.T. P., dean of Chichester, was Car. II. elected 15th April 1663, confirmed 5th May, conse- crated at Lambeth 10th-", and enthroned 28th May. He died suddenly 9th March 1678-9, and was buried
