In 1404 the archbishop and others en- tered into a conspiracy against the King^^, for which he was tried, condemned, and beheaded 8th June 1405,, and all his possessions seized into the King's hands 8'^. A license to elect an archbishop in the room of Richard Lescrope issued 17th June 1405^^; in pursuance of which Thomas Longley or Langley, dean of York and keeper of the privy seal, was elected, and obtained the royal assent to his election 8th Aug. 1405^^; on which day the King also addressed letters commend- atory of him to the Pope®^ ; and 17th July granted the custody of the temporalities to him^^ ; neverthe- less the Pope nullified the election, and nominated Robert Hallum, cha?icellorofthe university of Oxford^'^ ^ but the King not approving of this appointment, he was removed before consecration to Salisbury^®, by papal bull dated 22nd June 1407, and 1407 Henry Bow^et, bishop of Bath and Wells, was trans- 9 Hen. IV. lated to York by papal bull dated 7th Oct. 1407, and the temporalities were restored to him ist Dec. following ^^. He received his pall 27th Aug. 1408, and was enthroned 9th Dec. following ^o.
